Today’s responsorial psalm is taken from Psalm 49. The New American Bible entitles this psalm as Confidence in God rather than in Riches. The footnote states: “The psalm affirms confidence in God in the face of the apparent good fortune of the unjust rich”. It is difficult for us to see bad things happening to good people, while the unjust seem to have an easy life. This psalm reminds us that earthly treasure (riches) doesn’t last. All we have ends when we die. WE cannot bring our earthly goods with us when we die. The only thing that lasts and we take with us to the afterlife is God’s love.
