Daily Reflection: Monday, May 2

Monday of the Third Week of Easter

Memorial of Saint Athanasius

“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”
Jesus answered and said to them,
“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”
(6:29)

Is believing really a work?  It seems more like an attitude.  Believing in Jesus, the one sent by God, is a relationship that involves actions and consequences.  Jesus is the friend on whom we never turn our backs.  His friendship gives us courage, hope and joy.  Friendship with Jesus impels us to to be just, loving and generous.  So, we do the work of God.
