Daily Reflection: Saturday, September 3

Saturday, September 3, 2022 – Memorial of St. Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

In our Gospel reading from Luke’s Gospel, we read about how Jesus’ disciples were picking heads of grain to eat on the Sabbath, and how some Pharisees called them out for what they saw were unholy acts.  Luke describes the Pharisees as watch dogs, so worried about others and acting like the liturgical police. They were judging my human standards and not by God’s standards. At times we can fall into the trap of being like the Pharisees. Today pray for the graces to look inside us, to see what we need to change to become more loving as our loving God.  Also, that we may love one another and see the good within them.
