Today Mark has some harsh words for us. We read in this section of Mark’s gospel, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and place of honor at banquets.” I think we have to beware that we don’t become like those scribes that like the outward appearance of being Christians and get noticed. We are called to be humble.
