Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist

For surely the hand of the Lord was upon him.

The child grew and became strong in spirit,

and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel.  (Lk 1:66, 80)

According to Scripture, John was destined for greatness.  He did not seek it.  He had a plain message and he was a driven man, driven to prepare the way of the Lord.  People noticed and many took it to heart and reformed their lives.  John the Baptist still leads us to the Lamb of God.
