Daily Reflection: Monday, September 13

Monday, September 13

Today’s Gospel is about a centurion whose slave is ill and about to die. The centurion sends elders of the Jews to Jesus, asking Jesus to come and save his slave’s life. This is a strange combination of factors: a Roman centurion wants Jesus to save his slave. We know what the centurions did to Jesus later, but it seems that this one is very different from the others. This says to me that God can touch anyone’s heart that is open and searching for a “Higher Power”, more stable and dependable than many earthly powers. We remember the centurion saying, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof.”
