Daily Reflection: Monday, April 22

Monday, April 22

Today is Earth Day which has a longer history than you might remember. The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970. How appropriate for it to be during the Easter season as we celebrate what God did by raising Jesus to new life. Psalm 24 speaks of the Lord’s relationship to the earth. It says: “The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it. For He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.”

We are asked to take care of what God created and be its stewards during the time that we are here on earth. Pope Francis has written in Laudato Si and his recent encyclical that speaks of the urgency of taking better care of what God has given us. Take some time today to go out and absorb the beauty of the earth.

Fr. Andrew
