Memorial of Saint Martin of Tours, Bishop

Greet one another with a holy kiss.   (Rom 16:16)

Before Covid, the sign of peace at a crowded mass seemed like a frantic rush to shake as many hands as possible.  Reach out and touch someone.  If the church were not crowded, the gesture was a wave.  It seems that we are now settled on the “wave of peace” all the time.  Recently, I noticed something at that moment in the liturgy: a lot of eye contact.  It was a sign of sincere hope for peace for the other person and for all, an authentic sacramental moment.  Beautiful.
