Daily Reflection: Monday, October 10

Monday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time

…The sign of Jonah.   (Lk 11:29-23)

In the gospel of Matthew, the sign of Jonah is about the death and resurrection of the Lord.  Here in Luke, it is about repentance, turning around.  I hope that all of our encounters with the Lord are jarring.  Being who he is, Jesus shakes us up wherever we meet him and forces us to reappraise ourselves.  If we are self-satisfied, nothing happens; but if we are open to it, the grace of repentence is ours.
