Presentation of the Lord and St. Blaise. Bishop and Martyr

February 2, 2023    Presentation of the Lord

On Thursday. February 2nd at 9:00AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, we will celebrate the Presentation of the Lord when Jesus was presented in the temple. This holy day happens 40 days after Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Led by the Spirit, Simeon and Anna came to the temple, and recognized Jesus as their Lord and their Light. May the candles we light on this day remind us that God is the source of all light. Please feel free to bring a candle from home to be blessed or use one of the candles we will have for you in church.

February 3rd, 2023   St. Blaise. Bishop & Martyr

On Friday, February 3rd at 9:00AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, we celebrate the Feast of St. Blaise. People of faith have come to this Mass for many decades to receive the annual Blessing of Throats. St. Blaise is believed to have cured diseases of the throat. The legend began when Blaise was taken to prison by his adversaries. A mother brought her young son with her in hopes that Blaise could remove the fishbone [or thorn] that had become lodged in the boy’s throat. Blaise was able to heal the boy and was also known to heal many other people in prison. At the Mass on February 3rd. the Blessing of Throats will be given with two candles held in the form of a cross as the priest prays for the intercession of St. Blaise. All are welcome!
