Structural Repairs Completed at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Surf City
St. Thomas of Villanova Church - Surf City, NJ
Surf City, NJ – St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Surf City is set to reopen its doors after the successful completion of critical structural repairs beneath the building. The project, overseen by Buterick Bulkheading, has reinforced the church’s foundation, ensuring its safety and longevity.
The repair work involved the installation of 53 helical pilings to provide additional support to the 60-year-old girders. Jim Kaszuba Masonry played a vital role in restoring the church’s foundation by cleaning and sealing exposed and rusted rebar, as well as repairing damaged girders where cement had deteriorated. Additionally, L&D Plumbing ensured the water and sewer lines under the church were properly addressed, further securing the church’s infrastructure.
Following an inspection on February 27, 2025, KSI Professional Engineers confirmed that the structural repairs were completed in conformance with the Construction Documents. Additionally, JCR Engineering, LLC certified that all helical piles met and exceeded required capacity standards.
With the project now complete, St. Thomas of Villanova Church will officially reopen to the public on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 (CLICK HERE FOR EASTER SCHEDULE). The church will remain open for worship and community gatherings through October 12, 2025, before closing for the season. A special thank you goes to Joe Hummel, Chair of our Facilities Committee, for his outstanding leadership throughout this process.
