The Presentation of the Lord
This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas. This ancient feast marks the moment Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the temple, fulfilling Jewish law and recognizing Him as the Light of the World. It reminds us of Simeon’s prophecy, as he declared Jesus to be “a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for your people Israel” (Luke 2:32).
This feast is always observed on February 2, regardless of the day of the week, and it carries rich traditions. At all Masses this weekend, we will bless the candles used in our parish throughout the coming year. These include the candles that will light our altar and guide our celebrations, as well as the special candles for the Blessing of Throats on February 3, the Feast of St. Blaise.
We invite you to join us in this joyful celebration, as we pray for Christ's light to guide our hearts and illuminate the world.
