Daily Reflection: Friday, February 11

Friday, Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes

He has done all things well.  He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.  (Mk 7:37)

With hearing aids in my ears and voice issues that seem chronic, these words carry a certain irony for me.  But they are not ironic and are meant for us all.  We may ask God plainly for healing of our physical ailments or even for the grace to bear them.    Are we forgetful of our spiritual ailments?  Certainly, we don’t ask for the grace to live with spiritual deafness or blindness.  We don’t ask God for help in keeping silent about injustice and the sin of the world. Or do we?

O God, let us hear.  O God, let us speak.
