Daily Reflection: Thursday, February 10

Thursday, Memorial of Saint Scholastica

When Solomon was old his wives had turned his heart to strange gods and his heart was not entirely with the Lord, his God, as the heart of David his father had been.  (1 Kings 11:4)

This is the sad ending of Solomon’s days.  What happened to him that he jumped the track?  How did he come to ignore the source of his blessings and God’s fidelity to him?  Perhaps he let God’s presence to him become vague and fade into the background in the midst of the good life.  Whether God seems near or remote, it is important to come to God every day and offer God our love with our whole heart, all our mind and all our strength.  Our devotion is our safeguard.
