Daily Reflection: Thursday, August 17

Thursday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart.  (Mt 18:35)

The gospel passage for mass today follows yesterday’s on reconciliation.  Today is about forgiveness.  Simply, Jesus asks us to be like God, infinitely patient, infinitely forgiving.  There is, of course, “or else”.   But to be like God is to be joyful.  We should delight in forgiving.
