Daily Reflection: Thursday, April 7

Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.  (Jn 8:51)

Keeping Jesus’ word means adhering to his teaching and obeying his commandments.  That is plain enough.  But I think it also means treasuring his words in our hearts.  Even without making a special effort to memorize his words, some are naturally alive in our hearts already.  Blessed are the poor in spirit.  What you do to the least, you do to me.  I am with you always.  His words warm our hearts, give us courage, and guide our actions.  They both lead us to rest in God through prayer and give us sure hope of life with Jesus forever.  Lord, keep your word alive in us. Amen.
