Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne

Monday, July 26

The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flower until the whole batch was leavened.  (Mt 13:33)

This is a lot of flour!  Sixty pounds.  Jesus is exaggerating.  No one would do that, but he makes a point about the greatness of the Kingdom.

Today we celebrate Joachim and Anne, grandparents of Jesus.  When it comes to faith of our children, grandparents often do the leavening.  Some children only come to mass when they are visiting their grandparents.  However their faith develops, the children will remember their grandparents’ part.
