Daily Reflection: Monday, June 17

Monday, June 17

This week I will be focusing on the various texts from St. Matthew used at daily Mass. He is particularly noted for his collection of the sayings of Jesus. Today we have him dealing with a saying that his disciples are very familiar with: “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” He adds: “offer no resistance to one who is evil.” Then he adds more: “turn the other cheek, give your cloak, go a second mile.” Seems like much, doesn’t it. Jesus had a new way of dealing with various situations and they are as challenging today as when he first spoke them. Take time today to look at Matthew 5, 38-42. What is being asked is not easy.

Fr. Andrew
