Daily Reflection: Tuesday, June 18

Tuesday, June 18

Today’s Gospel from Matthew continues from yesterday with Jesus telling what he expects from each of us. Today he says: “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy, BUT I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” First, we need to pray for ourselves that we might be able to attempt to do what Jesus is asking. He wants us to be different from others who have a low standard of morality. He concludes by saying: “Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Jesus wouldn’t ask us to do this unless you believed that we could. Do you believe that you act in this way?
