Daily Reflection: Wednesday, June 1

June 1.  Memorial of St. Justin Martyr

They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. (Jn 17:14)

It feels good to know one’s way around in the world, but Jesus warned us to be prudent.  Be as wise as serpents. (Mt 10:16)   We know the troubles of the world and we also know the beauty and the goodness to be found in the world.  Jesus does not want us to get sucked in by any of it.

As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. (Jn 17:16)    Jesus sends us to do good, but we can only do that if we find our authentic belonging in the Kingdom of God and nowhere else.  It’s something to work on.
