Daily Reflection: Tuesday, May 31

May 31.  Feast of the Visitation

How does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.  (Luke 1:39-44)

As a male, imagining the meeting of the Blessed Mother and her kinswoman Elizabeth is way beyond me.  Two women, each pregnant in her own extraordinary way.  I think that they must have embraced for a long, long moment and shed tears of joy.  They knew that each other had received a miraculous blessing and they stood together, belly to belly, immersed in the blessing.  Their sons would die violently, but at this moment there was only joy.  Mothers understand.
