Daily Reflection: Monday, May 30

May 30. Memorial Day. Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter.

But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.  I have told you this so that you may have peace in me.  In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have  conquered the world.  (Jn 16:32-33)

I think of the Negro Spiritual, Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen.   Nobody knows but Jesus.  Louis Armstrong and Paul Robeson gave soul-felt renditions.

Jesus says that we will have troubles.  The war in Ukraine, the masacre at the Tops Supermarket in Buffalo, and the mass murder of school children in Texas are only some of the latest “troubles”.   Jesus knows and he gives us the courage both to carry on and to do something.
