Daily Reflection: Saturday, January 6

Saturday before Epiphany

And this is what [John] proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me.  I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.   I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit.”    (Mk 1:7-8)

The people respond to John’s message of repentance.  Although it is a sign, it is mere  water.  The holy Spirit which Jesus will give is entirely different.  It is transformative and gives new life and power.  It is the power of discipleship and of doing good in the name of Jesus.
