Daily Reflection: Tuesday, January 23

Tuesday, January 23

A Franciscan Sister from Syracuse, Sr. Marianne Cope’s feast day is today. She showed great compassion for those who were ill and helped found several hospitals in the Syracuse area. Her hospital skills were greatly valued when she and a few other Sisters responded to a letter asking them to come to Hawaii and attend to those with leprosy. The Sisters love for these “outcasts of society” earned Sr. Marianne the title “mother of outcasts.” She once said “I’m not afraid of any disease.” Her lack of fear and great compassion are to be admired by us today who deal with the new diseases. Sr. Marianne, inspire and strengthen us!

Fr. Andrew
