Daily Reflection: Monday, August 19

Monday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time
The young man said to him, “All of these [commandments] I have observed.  What do I still lack?”   (Mt 19:20)

It is a good question and one that may nag at us.  I think that it arises from a sense of insecurity, like we are not living up to what God expects of us.  The young man walked away from Jesus because he was attached to his possessions.  His property was his stumbling block.  We should check to see if we have any stumbling blocks, something that holds us back.  But the important thing is to love God totally and serve him with all our strength.  And to trust that God’s love for us is even greater.  Then we lack nothing.
