Daily Reflection: Thursday, September 12

Having considered 9/11 yesterday, today’s Gospel is a help to dealing with the tragedy of 9/11. It says: “love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, ..pray for those who mistreat you.” You have to agree how difficult that was the day after the Twin Towers fell and how difficult it is on any day at any time. We try so hard to “do to others as you would have them do to you.” Jesus helps us by reminding us that He did not return evil for evil but offered forgiveness. Although not easy, it is the way to go. Forgiveness often takes a long time, but it is worth a try…with God’s help.
