Daily Reflection: Friday, September 13

St. Paul uses a comparison in his First Letter to the Corinthians (1Cor. 9) to running a race. “Run so as to win.” Whether we are runners or not, having just viewed the Olympics, we know what training and sacrifices the athletes went through to enter the games as well as to win a medal. St. Paul is saying that we have to work at being a Christian daily, never giving us and even overcoming discouragement. The sacraments, reading the Scriptures, praying and having quiet time can all “build us up” so that daily we can taste the goodness of the Lord. Today’s Psalm says: “My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”
