“As for you, your sins are forgiven.” Luke 5:20

In today’s Gospel from Luke, the friends of a paralyzed man get creative and lower him through the roof to see Jesus and be healed. Jesus’s first response is to say that their sins are forgiven. It does not specify whose sins, but it seems to me it is all of theirs – the man on the stretcher and the stretcher bearers! Those who went out of their way to help the man who could not walk were freed from their sins. What a reward for kindness! And then Jesus heals the paralytic because of their faith. A communal action and a communal response. We need to remember who we truly are, part of the one Body of Christ.
