Daily Reflection: Tuesday, December 12

Tuesday December 12, 2023 Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today we honor La Virgen Maria de Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas. Mary appeared as a pregnant, mixed-race woman to a simple peasant in Tepeyac, Mexico in 1531. She came asking for a church to be built there so her son Jesus could be honored by all, especially those who were marginalized because of race and culture. Our Scripture readings speak of the simple Jewish girl whose ‘yes’ enabled the Incarnation of God into our world. Mary was always true to her roots and still cares for those who are poor and marginalized. We are asked to do the same, caring for those who have no voice of their own.
