Daily Reflection: Tuesday, January 2

Tuesday, January 2, 2024 – Memorial St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory Nazianzen. https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/010224.cfm

We might remember hearing this gospel story during Advent, so why are we hearing it again during the Christmas season? One possible reason is to remind us that we are not the Master of our world and life. It is Christ Jesus who is the Master of the universe. Our society tells us to be someone who is in control and have power over others. Our worth comes from what material goods we have and the power we have. Today’s reading tells us each one of us are unique with something special we are to accomplish on earth, for the building up of the Kingdom of God here on earth. The priests and Levites in our gospel reading are worried about their power and their status in the world and were unable to hear John the Baptist message. Today ask God to show you, who you were created to be. How are you to make straight the way of the Lord?
