Daily Reflection: Thursday, May 25

Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter

I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one,

I in them and you in me,

that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you have loved me.   (Jn 17:22-23)

Unity or, rather, disunity has been a problem for the church through the ages and it is now.  It weakens the church’s credibility.  Our unity is suppposed to lead the world to believe that Jesus is who we know him to be.  At mass there are prayers for unity in the Eucharistic Prayers and before communion.  Pray them earnestly!  Unity is not simply being nice; it is about love, heavy duty love.
