Daily Reflection: Wednesday, May 31

Wednesday May 31

Today’s Gospel speaks to us of Mary’s visit to Elizabeth. It is one of those stories where so many pieces are missing in the merely human telling of the event. We don’t need to have a full script of their meeting to accept what we have been given – a blessed encounter of two women whose faith led them to recognize God’s presence in each other. Elizabeth honors Mary as the mother of her Lord and Mary speaks, reflecting the words of Hannah in the Hebrew Bible, giving glory to God for his blessings and prophesying that the lowly will be raised up and filled with good things. These two women create a community of believers! We are each called to share the good news that God reveals to us in our own lives and so to add to the community of believers here today.
