Daily Reflection: Monday, November 29

November 29. Monday of the First Week of Advent

Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain,

to the house of the the God of Jacob,

That he may instruct us in his ways

and we may walk in his paths.  (Is 2:3)

The prophet Isaiah writes to console the people in exile far from home.  He prophesies that one day all nations will come streaming to God’s mountain.  For the Jews in exile, God’s mountain was a concrete place where the Temple in Jerusalem was, but it is also a metaphor for the way of life God has in mind for his people.

Isaiah invites us to make the effort to climb the mountain, to seek God and to let God instruct us.  We will always be climbing the mountain of the Lord and the Lord will continue to enlighten us with instruction.
