November 30. Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle

How beautiful the feet of those who bring good news.  (Rom 10:15)

During their ordination new priests priests kneel while all the old priests, one by one, impose hands on their heads.  Recently I met a priest who told me that at his ordination, head bowed, he was looking at the feet of the older ones as they passed by, imposing hands.  At one point, he noticed the feet of one priest who was wearing cheap sandals.  The feet were beat up and calloused.  After that, the new priest kept his eyes closed.   “Oh,” I said, “I know who that was.”

It was Chris Posch, a friar and friend of mine.  Chris served migrant workers with selfless enthusiasm and boundless energy.  He wept with those who weep and rejoiced with those who rejoice.  Wherever he went, he brought the good news of Jesus.  His gnarly feet were a witness to me of the people he loved.  His feet were indeed beautiful. He died young a little over a year ago.

Not only our feet, but our whole self is beautiful when we bring the good news to those who need it.
