Daily Reflection: Tuesday, December 14

Tuesday, December 14

St. John of the Cross, a doctor of the church, is remembered today as a great mystic. This is his feastday. John had to suffer much at the hands of those closest to him until his death. His famous Dark Night of the Soul describes both his sufferings and his experiences of joy during this time in his life. One of his famous sayings is “Where there is no love, put love, and you will draw love out.” For a person such as John to say this, considering all the suffering he had to endure from others, there has to be a depth in his life’s relationship to God.
