Today is the feast of St. Catherine of Siena. What a great lady she was and her greatness was recognized when she was made a “Doctor of the Church.” She lived in the 14th century and wrote hundreds of letters to popes, monarchs and the powerful telling them how they should be using their authority. The papacy was in Avignon at that time and she did not hesitate to tell the Pope to return to Rome.  She once wrote: “Preach the truth as if you had a million voices. It is silence that kills the world” and “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”  She certainly did this.
