Daily Reflection: Monday, May 31

Monday, May 31

Memorial Day and Feast of the Visitation

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.  (Rom 12:12).

Our prayer of today juxtaposes solemn remembrance of the dead, particularly those who died defending our country, and hope in the good things that God has in mind for his children.

Although they would rather have lived, the war dead believed that their sacrifice was for something greater than themselves.  Our gratitude to them should be expressed by living for something greater than ourselves.

The Virgin Mary and Elizabeth rejoiced together in their extraordinary blessings and knew that from that moment onward their lives were in service of something far far greater than they could imagine.
