Daily Reflection: Wednesday, October 11

Wednesday of the Twenty-seventh week in Ordinary Time

…Forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.   (Lk 11:4)

For the Jews of Jesus’ day, the final test was an expected time of turbulence before the end.  It seems like we are always there.  I wonder if my final test would be something that pushes me over the edge of despair so that I give up on God.  Yes, Lord, deliver me from that!

In these dark days of wars, hatreds and divisions, the forgiveness part of the Lord’s prayer is vital.  We want to do something.  Forgive. Understandably, some will say that the time is not ripe.  But for the long haul, we still stand for forgiveness.  Proclaim forgiveness.  It is not a message that will be welcomed, but it is our message.  Lord, make us instruments of your peace.  Amen.
