Daily Reflection: Tuesday, October 19

Tuesday, October 19

We remember Sts. John Brebeuf. Isaac Jogues and their companions today. These Jesuits came to Quebec in the 1600’s to work with the Huron Indians. Unfortunately, the Hurons were enemies of the Iroquois and they were captured by the Iroquois and tortured. Because of their lack of knowledge of the ways of the Indians, the missionaries were looked upon suspiciously by the native Americans and underwent cruel deaths.  We can certainly hear these martyrs saying: “Here I am, Lord, I come to do your will.”
