Daily Reflection: Saturday, October 23

One of our Franciscans, St. John of Capistrano’s Memorial is today. He is a rather controversial figure, called the “soldier saint” for engaging in a battle against the Turks who were invading Vienna and Rome. He lived during the 1400’s and was involved with the inquisition. His spirited preaching is what made him famous. He once said: “Those who are called to the table of the Lord must glow with the brightness that comes from the good example of a praiseworthy and blameless life…Their upright lives must make them like salt of the earth for themselves and the rest of humanity.”
