Daily Reflection: Thursday, November 9
Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
…I saw water flowing out from beneath the threshold of the temple toward the east…. …For wherever this water comes, the sea shall be made fresh. (Ez 47:1,9)
This is the feast of the Mother Church in Rome, but it is also about the whole Church to which we belong. We are witnesses of sin that weakens the Church. It has probably always been that way and yet…. And yet, the Church is the great vehicle of God’s grace. In spite of everything, the river of grace flows into the world and into our lives. The Word is preached, the Bread is broken, lives are lived in sacrificial love. We are washed clean by the river of grace and energized for the work of the gospel. Praise God!
