There is a striking statement in today’s Gospel spoken by John the Baptist. John realizes what his role is in relation to Jesus. John says: “He must increase; I must decrease.” John was very popular and many were coming to him to be baptized, but when Jesus appears, he knows that there is someone mightier than him who has finally arrived. This is certainly a statement that can help us in our growth as Christians: “He must increase: I must decrease.” Let Christ shine forth from your daily life.
