Daily Reflection: Monday, January 10
Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
This is the time of fulfillment. (Mk 1:15)
Beginning “ordinary” time, we take the Lord’s words to heart: This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. God is at hand. That is what I want to keep in mind this week as we read at mass from the first book of Samuel.
Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, was disconsolate because she had no children. Elkanah tried to cheer her, Why do you grieve? Am I not more to you than ten sons? (1Sam 1:8) But he loved her and shared her deep sorrow. Elkanah might be seen as an image of God. God is present to us whatever our troubles may be and God’s presence alone is our consolation.
