Daily Reflection: Saturday, January 15

Saturday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

And we are in the one who is true,
in his Son Jesus Christ.
He is the true God and eternal life.
(1Jn 5:29-0)

We leave the first book of Samuel in the weekday lectionary and switch to the first letter of John.  Had we stayed with Samuel, we would have read of Saul’s anointing as king.  When he was baptized, Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit who descended upon him.  Since we are “in the one who is true”, we are also anointed.  In the Son, we are chosen, beloved, and sent.  Joy.
