Daily Reflection: Wednesday, February 2
Wednesday, February 2
The presentation of Jesus in the temple is today’s feast. Mary and Joseph are fulfilling the law by bringing Jesus to be “consecrated to the Lord” according to the Lord’s law. Simeon in the temple says: “…my eyes have seen…a revelation to the Gentiles.” This feastday has been called “candlemas day” because church candles are blessed on this day and in the past, given to people who then form a large procession with lighted candles. This recalls that Jesus is the “light of the world” and our light. When you light a candle, you share in bringing that light into your world.
