Daily Reflection: Saturday, February 5

Saturday, February 5

Once, when I was in Rome, I visited the Basilica of St. Agatha in Agony. I knew that she was a martyr but wondered why the word “agony” was added to her name. Her biography speaks of a woman who was subjected to some of the worst tortures because she was a Christian and because she wouldn’t marry a Roman consul. As the patroness of those suffering from breast cancer, she is called upon today by those dealing with this form of cancer. She is a good friend to have.
