Daily Reflection: Wednesday, July 12

Wednesday, July 12

“Let your mercy be on us as we place our trust in you” is the response to the Responsorial Psalm. The Gospel for today has Jesus naming the 12 apostles and giving them instructions: they are to go not to the pagans or Samaritans but to “the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” This may seem confusing, but the mission for the 12 begins “at home.” The apostles have seen Jesus’ success with pagans and Samaritans, but those nearest will be a challenge to them. These are the people with whom he has grown up and who know him. The invitation to hear his message is extended here, at home. Sometimes even we may find “at home” situations not that easy.
