Daily Reflection: Wednesday, August 9

Wednesday, August 9

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) celebrates her feastday today. Although born Jewish, she rejected this and became an atheist. She was an intelligent woman with a doctorate in philosophy and became interested in religion. She read about St. Teresa of Avila, came a Catholic and entered the Carmelite convent. With many other Jewish people, she was arrested and deported to and died in Auschwitz. She said: “Do you want to be totally united to the Crucified? If you are serious about this, you will be present, by the power of His Cross, at every place of sorrow.”
