Memorial of St. Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor

Not to us, O Lord, not to us

but to your name give glory

because of your mercy, because of your truth. (Ps 115:1-2)

I am a little skeptical of the ball players who make make great signs of religious fervor when they score.  Sure, it is right to give thanks to God at all times, but a game is just a game.  And even if God were interested, I doubt that God would take sides.

Just the same, it is right and just to give God thanks in all our successes.  And to be grateful to God for all we accomplish.  It is only by God’s grace that we live or do anything.

John Frambes, ofm
