Our Gospel reading from Luke, tells his readers just because we have our faith does not mean we will not experience the messiness of life, wars, conflicts, and natural disasters.  When disasters happen and people who claim that this is a sign from God, we are not to believe them because they are not God’s messengers.

Also, Jesus warns his followers of every age against opportunists who will claim leadership in his name but, in fact, are only concerned with exploiting people when they are most frightened and vulnerable.

One gospel scholar speaking about this Gospel reading, tells us that Jesus gives 4 guidelines:

1.      Don’t stray

2.      Don’t panic when disasters happen, “Don’t be terrified. These things will happen.  They are not the end”

3.      Give Witness

4.      Endue

Today, let us pray for the wisdom of God, that we can live as a peaceful loving child of God during the messiness of the world and not live in fear and to live in HOPE.
